Barford Weekend 16th & 17th May 2026

Was a difficult day on Saturday then again on Sunday although results showed a little better. It doesn’t help when you don’t fish a venue regularly enough to learn tactics. Congratulations to Chumba for winning overall. Well done to Bob for finishing second on Saturday with 18-12 just the one carp.

Winter League Wk 9

So with the weather much improved from the last match debacle we had a good turnout of 14 for this, the last match of the winter series. Mr Page arrived (eventually) looking considerably under par after the his excesses of the previous day – if you will start drinking at 1pm on a Saturday what can you expect!!!!

So with the draw done, with the unusual inclusion of peg 23, the scene was set for the last round of this years winter league.

Chris Tims was on peg 15 and had a slow start with only a few skimmers and roach to show for his efforts by 12.30 when he decided to try his “carp line” at 13m, missed a bite straight away and then had 7 carp over the next 2.5 hrs to put 40lb 15oz on the scales and 1st place this week. (a vast improvement on the blank on the previous match!)

Mark Seaman was on peg 25 and had carp, mainly down the edge, for 39lb 13oz and 2nd place and Phil Pipe, on peg 23, had 3 carp for 37lb 1oz, all in the last hour, to take 3rd

Sections went to James Page, Kevin Blake and Chris Isbell all with 20lb + weights so spring is definitely on the way.

The Winter League was decided this year by clear points margins and, after the last matches points swing at the top, James “Chumba” Page retained his lead to take 1st place and picked up the trophy plus £90. Mark Seaman was in 2nd place and collected £50 and Chris Tims took 3rd and £35.

The terrible trio of Winter League framers

So now we have a break from matches until May – when it all kicks off again ……..see you there

Winter League results and weights for the 9 match series – an awful lot of blanks!!!

Winter League 8

So, I have to ask the question about the sanity of fishermen generally, and of these 9 individuals in particular…….. with matches being cancelled locally DUE TO THE WEATHER, we have 9 hardy(stupid) souls turnout to fish the match. The day started with rain and then went downhill from there (see pictures)…..

Chumba found a few as usual and ran away with the match from end peg 2 putting 12lb 14oz of pinkie caught silvers on the scales.

Colin Blackburn on peg 28 had a few roach for 1lb 6oz and second place this week followed by Dan Warman on peg 27 with slightly fewer roach and 9oz for third.

The remainder of the field did not weigh AGAIN! What is going on this year???

So Chumba takes a healthy lead in the winter league with only 1 match to go which will be on Sunday 1st March 2026 ………….see you there (it has got to be better than today!!)

Sunday 1st February 2026- Club Lake

Winter League Week 7

Mark Seaman arrived on crutches this week after an accident on holiday, but it didn’t impede his angling ability! He was on peg 31 and after a difficult first 2hrs he sorted out what the carp wanted and caught steadily to the end of the match on pellet at 14.5mts to put 42lb 3oz on the scales for another 1st place.

Chumba returned after Reepham duties last week, and drew peg 29 where he proceeded to catch first roach and then skimmers and chub plus a couple of smaller carp for a total weight of 41lb 13oz, just 5oz behind Mark, to take 2nd spot this week.

Then move we to peg 28 where Bob Isbell had a good day on the feeder and put 33lb 8oz on the scales for 3rd place.

Sections went to Chris Tims and Billy Watson

Please Note: All trophies need to be returned to the match secretary as soon as possible – bring them with you to the next match on Sunday 15th February 2026 ………………..see you there
